Sharin Fokema
I am a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant with 9 years of professional experience and more than 25 years of personal experience supporting my own three children with severe hearing loss, deafness, and autism. My life experience deeply informs my work and helps me connect with the children I support in a meaningful and authentic way.
I value the effort that children, families, and professionals invest in their goals, and I love seeing the positive changes that grow from that commitment. Being part of that process consistently puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart.
I work individually and in small groups with children on their speech and language goals as directed by the Speech Language Pathologist. I provide models, guidance, encouragement, and positive feedback, always aiming to help children feel seen, supported, and confident. As humans, we all have a deep need to connect and be understood, and I feel blessed to play a role in helping children build the communication skills that lead to greater confidence and stronger life outcomes.
As a parent who has navigated speech therapy with my own children, I am closely connected to the challenges and rewards of this journey. I bring empathy, compassion, and an open mind to every session, supporting each child as an individual with their own strengths and needs.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, crocheting, woodworking, kayaking, camping, and spending time with my family.
