Hazim Al-Faouri

I am a Mental Health Therapist with Tamaca in Alberta, providing counselling support for children and youth in Kehewin First Nation. I work with students from kindergarten through grade 12, helping them navigate challenges such as stress, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and emotional regulation while supporting their growth both in and outside the classroom.

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with experience supporting individuals, couples, and groups from diverse backgrounds. My approach is supportive, practical, and focused on creating a safe, understanding space where people feel heard while building coping skills and resilience.

Along with my work with children and youth, I also support adults and couples, drawing on tools from cognitive behavioural therapy, trauma-informed care, and the Gottman Method. My goal is to help people strengthen communication, improve relationships, and find healthier ways of moving through life’s challenges.

At the heart of my work is a belief in the strength and resilience of every individual. I aim to walk alongside clients as they reconnect with their inner resources and gain confidence in their ability to create meaningful change.

As an Indigenous Mental Health Therapist, my passion for this work comes from personal experience and a deep connection to community. I have witnessed the impact that trauma, struggle, and systemic challenges have had on First Nations individuals and families. These experiences inspire me to support others in their healing journeys.

My values are rooted in respect, resilience, and cultural understanding. I believe every person has the ability to heal and grow when given compassion, support, and a safe space to be heard. This work is more than a career for me. It is a calling grounded in honouring the strength of my people and the importance of breaking cycles of pain through healing and connection.

I support children and youth by creating a safe, welcoming space where they can express themselves and learn healthy ways to cope. I use a mix of play-based activities, counselling conversations, and practical strategies suited to each student’s age and needs.

Healing doesn’t happen in isolation, so I work closely with families and caregivers to help strengthen communication and support at home. I also collaborate with teachers, school staff, and community partners, seeing us all as part of the same team supporting a child’s well-being.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in nature, staying active through basketball and fitness, and finding moments of balance through movement. I also love cooking and traveling, which give me opportunities to connect with different cultures, people, and experiences.
