Megan Stock is a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist based out of Edmonton, Alberta. She completed her Master of Speech-Language Pathology degree at the University of Alberta and has been in practice for 22 years. Megan began her career working with pediatric clients in early intervention programs in Edmonton. After the birth of her first of three children, she began private practice. Learning and growing her practice while raising her young family greatly shifted and positively impacted her ability to connect with parents and caregivers. During this time, she also had the wonderful opportunity to work as a Clinical Educator at the University of Alberta.

For the past 10 years, Megan has focused her practice in First Nations communities. She has worked in various capacities in almost every First Nation community in Treaty 6, 7, and 8 throughout Alberta. Much of Megan’s work has involved offering speech and language assessment, diagnosis, and intervention services directly in the communities; as well as providing parent and staff consultations and training. Building capacity in families and in professionals working in the schools and Head Start programs to help promote early communication development, has been an ongoing objective. Learning from community members and Elders to build relationships has been the most essential component in striving to meet best practice.

In 2017, after years of witnessing the significant gap in allied health services offered within First Nations communities, Megan incorporated Tamaca Therapy Services Inc. Her organization has since grown to a team of 32 allied health professionals, including: Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, a Dietician, and a Mediator/Restorative Practices Facilitator. All Tamaca Therapists travel to rural, northern, remote, and First Nations communities to provide assessment, intervention, and counseling services in the client’s home community. Since the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Tamaca team have sharpened their telehealth skills and now offer virtual services, in person services, or a combination of both depending on the wishes of the community, school/program, or client. Therapy your way!

Megan was born and raised in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, a small South Slave community with a large Indigenous population. Her upbringing amongst the Dene, Metis and Inuit inspired her interest in expanding her understanding and experiences of Indigenous people and traditions. Megan is honoured to be welcomed in the First Nations communities throughout Alberta. She continues to learn about and experience beautiful traditions and strong cultures while promoting the early learning and well-being of youth.
